Here's what you need to know

Disability insurance is a form of insurance that protects your monthly income should you become ill or injured and cannot work. In the event you are unable to work due to illness or injury your paychecks stop, but your living expenses don’t.

Disability insurance can keep you and your family from completely depleting your savings or running up debt if you are unable to work for an extended time due to injury or illness.

How much Disability Insurance do you need?

Your premium amount is determined by your age, occupation, gender, health, and benefit amount. To determine how much coverage you need calculate:

  • Income
  • Expenses
  • Savings

Accidents and illness happen unexpectedly. Protect yourself and your income by investing in disability insurance.

Did you know?

  • 1 in 4 people over the age of 20 will become disabled during their working lives.
  • 90% of long-term disabilities result from illnesses rather than accidents.
  • 7 in 10 working Americans couldn’t make it a month without a paycheck before having financial difficulties.

Insure what you earn

Typically disability insurance costs between one and three percent of your salary. That’s dollars a day to help protect your family and your lifestyle.

Your savings and debt can be protected if you become unable to work for an extended period of time due to illness or injury.

Living expenses

Disability insurance can help cover your living expenses, such as mortgage, groceries, and transportation costs.

Medical expenses

Disability insurance can assist with covering medical expenses related to your disability.

Income replacement

Disability insurance can provide a percentage of your pre-disability income as a monthly benefit.

What does Disability Insurance not cover?

Here are two important things to know about what Century+ disability insurance (From Assurity) does not cover:

Pregnancy & Childbirth

  • Routine pregnancy/childbirth is excluded from disability benefits under this policy.
  • Only medical complications of pregnancy that meet the policy’s disability definition may be considered for benefits.

Pre-Existing Conditions

  • If you become disabled within the first two years after your coverage begins due to a health condition that existed before the policy started, the plan typically won’t pay benefits for that condition unless it was clearly disclosed when you applied and it was not excluded.
