Here's What you Need To Know

Homeowners Insurance covers expenses related to your home and its contents from losses or damage due to events like fire, extreme weather and theft. It also covers expenses due to damage or injuries incurred at the property, including legal expenses.

Coverage for the structure of your home

Your homeowners policy pays to repair or rebuild your home if it is damaged or destroyed by fire, weather-related events, or other disasters listed in your policy. Most people will purchase enough coverage to rebuild their home.

Coverage for your personal belongings

Your furniture, clothes, appliances, electronics, and other personal items are covered if they are stolen or destroyed by fire or other insured events impacting your home.

Liability protection

Liability covers you against lawsuits for bodily injury or property damage that you or those who live in your house cause - or that occurs on your property. The liability portion of your policy pays for both the cost of defending you in court and any court awards, up to the limit stated in your policy.

Additional living expenses

Your policy will also cover additional costs of living away from home if you cannot live there due to damage from an insured disaster. It covers accommodations and other costs over and above your usual living expenses which occur while your home is being rebuilt.

Did you know?

It's not required by law, but homeowners insurance is still considered must-have coverage, as almost no one has the funds to absorb the loss of what's likely your most valuable asset - your home. If you have a mortgage, you are most likely required by your lender to carry homeowners insurance.

Most people can't absorb a loss of what is likely to be their most valuable asset - their homes - without homeowners insurance.
