Mercer Role, Recommendations and Compensation

Role:

Mercer Health & Benefits Administration LLC (“Mercer”) maintains this Indigo platform (“Platform”) to help users gain access to insurance, and other products and services that are provided by insurers and other service providers who are independent from Mercer. Mercer is not responsible for any insurance, product or service you may purchase from others with access from the Platform.

Recommendations:

The decision to purchase insurance, products and services from others that you access from the Platform is exclusively yours. Accordingly, you should undertake your own evaluation to select insurers and other service providers that are most appropriate for your needs. Please be advised that not all providers of insurance, services and products are accessible from the Platform.

Mercer is not responsible for any insurance, product or service you may purchase from others with access from the Platform. Mercer recommends that you purchase insurance, products and services from institutions that are in good financial standing, well capitalized and highly rated as Mercer is not responsible for the current or future financial condition, solvency or ability of any insurance carrier or other service provider to pay claims or provide service. We recommend that you select insurers rated by A.M. Best, a rating agency that is independent from Mercer, as Excellent (A- or A) or Superior (A+ or A++). We advise that you review the complete A.M. Best Financial Strength Rating Guide at the following link: [insert link].

High ratings are not a guarantee of future solvency but may be indicative of the institution's current financial condition. Published financial ratings may not be available for certain insurers and many other service providers. The absence of a rating may or may not be indicative of the institution's financial condition. Mercer does not endorse or corroborate the financial ratings issued by any rating agency and cannot and does not warrant the accuracy of information relied upon in the development of any rating. Any rating is judgmental and subject to various interpretations.

Compensation:

Mercer receives compensation from the providers of insurance, products and services you purchase with access from the Platform. This compensation can vary between insurers and other service providers, and can vary among the type of insurance, product and service you purchase. This compensation typically takes the form of a commission that is calculated as a: 1) percentage of the premium, product cost or service fee you pay; or 2) a fixed dollar amount paid to Mercer upon your purchase. In the case of insurance, anti-rebating and anti-inducement laws in most states prohibit Mercer’s ability to alter the commissions payable from insurers.

Expenses incurred in providing the insurance you purchase are included in the overall premium you pay for coverage. These expenses can include marketing and communications, premium billing and collection, claims processing, claims payment, customer service and compensation paid to any intermediary who assisted with your purchase.

In accordance with industry custom and as is permitted by law Mercer’s insurance compensation may also consist of monetary and non-monetary compensation that: 1) is based on the volume, growth and/or retention of Mercer’s overall book of business with the insurer; 2) pays Mercer for marketing, technology and other similar business investments; and/or 3) is earned from the interest payable on insurance premium that Mercer bills, collects, holds and remits on behalf of insurers.

Mercer, along with its affiliates and parent Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc., may have equity interests in insurers and other insurance intermediaries. You may call 1-888-206-5088 with any questions you may have regarding these equity interests or Mercer’s role and compensation.
